Standard widths and heights, headroom, side room and back room, and the track types that fit different spaces.
Garage doors come in standard widths and heights, though many older garages are not standard. Single doors are commonly eight or nine feet wide, double doors are often sixteen feet and heights of seven or eight feet are common. The door must also have room to move: headroom above the opening for the tracks and springs, side room on each side for the track and enough depth in the garage for the door to travel back along the ceiling.
When headroom is tight, low-headroom hardware can help. When a ceiling is high, high-lift tracks can raise the door higher. Obstructions such as pipes, lights and beams matter too. In Nashville, many older homes have nonstandard openings, so we measure at several points and order a door sized to your actual opening. Our size planner tool gives a quick idea of what fits, and we confirm everything at the visit.
