New torsion springs sized to your door weight, installed with fresh hardware checks and a full balance test.
Torsion springs are the heart of most modern garage doors. Mounted on a shaft above the door, they twist to counterbalance the weight so that an opener, or your own hands, can lift hundreds of pounds with ease. They wear with every cycle, and one day they break, usually with a loud bang. Homeowners in Nashville call us when the door will not lift and the opener only hums.
We measure the door weight and the existing spring wire size, length and inside diameter, then choose springs that match. We replace springs in pairs when two are present, since the second one is usually close to failing as well. While the shaft is exposed we inspect the cables, drums, bearings and center bracket, lubricate the moving parts and set the tension carefully. Then we test balance, travel and the opener before we leave.
Springs must match door weight, height and track type. Wrong springs make the door heavy, fast or unsafe.
When two springs are installed, they wear at nearly the same rate, so replacing both avoids a second call soon after.
A broken spring often means worn cables, drums or bearings. We inspect them while the shaft is accessible.
Torsion springs hold dangerous stored energy. We use proper winding bars and procedures and we do not recommend doing this yourself.

They are rated in cycles, and a standard spring is often rated for around ten thousand. A cycle is one open and one close.
When two are installed, we recommend both, because the second is usually close behind.
Springs wear with every cycle. Rust, lack of lubrication and heavy use shorten their life.
We recommend against it. Springs can cause serious injury during winding.
A properly sized spring makes the door light and smooth again.
